Cookies

What is set, what is not, and how a measurement tag runs here without ever writing a cookie.

What this site sets

No cookie is written on an ordinary visit — not for measurement, not for advertising, not for preferences. The site does load a measurement tag, and the section below is an account of exactly what that tag does and does not do, rather than a claim that it is not there.

The measurement tag, and why it writes no cookie

The site loads Google Analytics 4 to count visits. A Consent Mode v2 default runs first on every page and denies analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising personalisation and personalisation storage — for every visitor, in every country, with no regional exception. GA4 therefore runs cookieless: it writes no analytics cookie and stores no identifier on your device.

That denial is permanent rather than pending. There is no consent banner on this site, of ours or Google’s, and no control anywhere that could switch analytics storage on, so there is nothing for you to accept and nothing to withdraw. You are not being asked because nothing is being asked for.

Being cookieless is not the same as being invisible, and this page will not pretend otherwise. The tag is fetched from Google’s own server at googletagmanager.com, so that request reaches Google as a matter of how the connection works, and Google receives the page address, the page you arrived from, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type. An IP address is personal data under the UK GDPR even when it is not stored. If you would rather none of that happened, blocking the script in your browser or with an extension changes nothing else on the site — the checker runs in your browser and does not need it.

The one cookie this site can write, and when

Adding ?internal=1 to any address here stores a gr_int cookie for a year, and a matching entry in local storage, which switches the measurement tag off for that browser. It exists so our own testing does not appear in the figures. Nothing links to it, an ordinary visit never triggers it, and it holds a single flag rather than anything about you. Visiting the site without that parameter never writes it.

Advertising

None. There is no advertising on this site, no advertising network wired into it, and therefore no advertising cookie to describe. If that ever changes, this page will name each cookie, its purpose and its lifetime before any of them is set.

What the checker stores

Nothing persistent. What you type is held in the page’s memory while you are using it and is gone when you navigate away or close the tab. It is not written to a cookie, to local storage, or to session storage, and it is not part of what the measurement tag sends.

The figures and rules on this site are taken from the Income Tax (Pay As You Earn) Regulations 2003, the Income Tax Act 2007 and HMRC’s published guidance, and are shown as they were found. They have not been signed off by a reviewer. Where the law and HMRC’s naming differ, the page says which is which rather than blending them. For anything that affects a decision, the cited document governs and this site does not.
